Vijay and best choreographer Prabhu Deva are back again after smash hit Pokkiri. This movie has Nayanthara in the lead. Vijay desperately needs a box office hit to retain his spot in this tinsel town.  This movie has Vadivelu also as the comedian. Vijay and Nayanthara are paired as hero and heroine for the first time.

This movie is said to be inspired by Bollywood hit SOLDIER starring Preity Zinta and Bobby deol. In Hindi the revolves around bobby Deol who in disguise takes revenge on people who killed his father. Though this is story which is on the old terrain, it ran to packed houses due to it’s powerful screenplay and songs.

Can vijay turn it at this time too like Pokkiri?  We have to wait and watch how Prabhu Deva has scripted this one. This will be a Pongal release.

After giving out hits like Minnalae, Kaakha Kaakha, Vetaiyudu Velaiyadu Gautham is back again with Vaaranam Aayirum. This has exceeded the expectations of the people. The much awaited movie is finally released on Nov 14Th.

The movie has no commercial stuff expected by Surya fans but definitely will take Surya to a new level. He has matured enough with his acting. He has given out hundred percent in the movie.

The movie portrays father-son relationship. Surya plays dual role. The movie starts off with Surya as a military officer. He receives the news of his father’s (Surya) demise. The movie then unfolds with younger Surya cherishing what his father has done to him.

The movie picks off from here and never stagnates at any point until interval. The first half narrates his father’s college days and how he fall in love with Simran. The first song in the movie is “Mundhinam Parthen”. This song takes you into the movie without affecting it’s pace. They get married and give birth to Surya and his sister.

Then comes the 17 year old Surya. You get to see him very less in the movie. His school days are narrated with “Yethi Yethi” song, then he grows into a college student where he enjoys his college life very much without concentrating on studies. On way home from college he meets Sameera Reddy in a night train. He falls in love at first sight. He proposes to  her. She refuses him as she does not believe in love at first sight.

She travels to the USA for pursuing the post graduation. Meanwhile dad Surya falls ill. Now Surya feels the responsibility of a son and starts to earn quick money. He finishes construction of his dad’s dream house with the quick earned money. He reveals everything about Sameera to his dad. Surya flies to the USA to make her love him and get her back to India. There he stays with her for 90 days. Eventually she falls in love with him. They also make love with each other.

One day Sameera dies in an accident. Surya could not forget her. This will end the first half. “Nenjukal, Oh Shanthi, Adiyey Kolluthey” are all played in first half.

Goutham has handled second half differently. The second half is not as good as the first one. He joins in army to forget Sameera. Meanwhile he falls in love with Divya Spandana. Movie is derailed from the track of human relationships.

Surya’s performance and Harris Jayaraj’s music is above par. Watch the movie with no expectations.
You will definitely like first half. Six packs are also not necessary for this movie. The movie is all how you take it. First half can be watched many times. It has the grace and enigma of Goutham’s direction.

VERDICT: Must watch movie. Surya has done a splendid job.

Tamil cinema has made us proud. Four Tamil movies have been selected for the 39th international film festival going to be held in Goa on November 22ND.  The movies are Priyadarshan’s Kanchivaram, Shankar’s Kaloori, Ajith’s Billa and Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai (M3V) by Krishnan Seshadri Gomatam.

Kanchivaram  has Prakashraj and Shriya Reddy in the lead. Balaji Sakthivel has directed Kaloori after hit Kadhal. This has given him ample recognition. This movie is produced by Shankar. Kaloori has Tamanna in the lead. It has beautiful songs and it is a director’s delight.

M3V is Krishnan Seshadri Gomatham’s first movie as director. Though this movie did not fare well in the box office, it has been selected to add solace to director.

Ajith Nayanthara starer Billa has also made to this film festival for it’s stylish portrayal and locales. This was a box office hit for Ajith who was in need of a hit at that time.

After the success of Billa in 2007, Ajith and Nayanthara pair once again for AEGAN which is ace choreographer Raju Sunduram’s first directorial venture. This movie is inspired from bollywood hit MAIN HOO NAA directed by Farah khan. Aegan is released worldwide on 25Th October 2008. Now the question arises “did Aegan do justice to main hoon naa”? The answer is definitely a NO.

The movie starts off with Ajith as a cop shooting down criminals. He sports a beard with a paunch. He is the son of police commissioner played by Nasser. Nasser a seasoned campaigner plays his role well. Their main task is to catch hold of an underworld Don played by Suman. Suman sports a comical look. The director tries to portray the villain on lighter side but that doesn’t seem appealing. Lots of scenes involving him irate the audience. A man from his underworld crew  wants to break free. He is provoked to be the app rover after his wife is shot dead by Suman’s men. They try to kill him, but he escapes from police and Suman.

The only means for police to catch hold of Suman is this app rover. So both police and Suman’s men’s search for him in desperation. The only way police could catch this man is to trace his daughter (Piya bajpai) studying in college. So Ajith is forced to play a college student. How Ajith catches this guy forms the rest of the story.  The intensity shown by Suman’s men in tracking down this guy seems to get lost in the college backdrop which was well handled in the Hindi version. At times you tend to forget that Suman’s henchmen are in trace of the app rover.

Nayanthara plays ajith’s his love interest as a chemistry professor. She is the real plus in this movie. Her outfits make the audience glue to the screen. Yuvan shankar raja lets us down with his music. Raju sundaram proves his mettle in dance sequences. The song odum varayil is pictured well.

Comedy scenes involving suman, Ajith, Haniffa and Satyan doesn’t make you  laugh. I don’t understand why Raju Sundaram did not remake scene by scene from Main hoon naa. Anyhow you have chosen the script from MHN then why the hell did you add your own ideas to it?

VERDICT: AVERAGE

Director Hari is back with Bharath starer Seval. Being Hari’s movie you imagine all commercial ingredients. This time he has dealt with only sentiment and strong storyline. If you are looking for a heart touching movie with ladies sentiment showcased throughout, this is the one to watch for.

This is also a comeback movie for Simran.  Bharath plays a dirty aimless youth in the movie. The movie reminds you of Ameer’s classic Paruthiveeran in some scenes. Bharath along with Vadivelu plays spoilsport with his dad. He is so careless that he sells of his grandpa’s land for sake of drinking with friends.

He changes his character once he sees Parijatham (poonam bajwa). She looks beautiful and plays her part well. She might be the next Nayanthara of Kollywood. We all know Nayanthara was introduced by Hari in Ayya.

In order to get rid of Bharath she gives him a task of buying back the sold land. If he succeeds she promises to do anything. Bharath tries out many jobs, but he realises he is too much for her and assures her that he won’t follow.

He  joins as a truck driver in village head (Sampath) house. Sampath has an eye on the heroine. He plays cheap tricks to darn her. Bharath becomes aware of this and saves the heroine on many occasions.

SImran plays heroin’s sister. She gets married and  returns for pregnancy. In the meantime heroine gets moved by Bharath and love waves start to ripple amongst them when Bharath accepts her dad’s guilt.

Suddenly Simran gets infected by cancer. Heroine stays in Simran’s house to take care of her sister’s baby. There Simran’s brother-in-law falls for her sister, he along with Sampath plays cheap tricks to woo her but fail miserably. Sampath plays a double game and kills Simran’s husband by mistake in the plot made for Simran’s brother-in-law. How Bharath rescues heroine from the wrath of bad men forms the rest of story.

GV Prakash music is average. Vadivelu plays his character role well but his comedy scenes are monotonous and disgusting.  Bharath plays his role well.

VERDICT: NOT BAD.

Shankar and Rajni are back again after Shivaji. Though Shivaji was claimed as a hit, it did not please audience as it lacked punch dialogues for the Superstar. Here, already one dialogue started doing rounds. The dialogue is:”Ethire evan da endhiran varan da”. The movie is a high budget extravaganza from Shankar. Shankar has kept it confidential as far as the shot is concerned.

Shankar has roped in Aishwarya Rai as the heroine. It seems she has been paid a whopping amount for this movie. Music as usual is by AR Rahman. He has given more than hundred percent in all Shankar’s movies. Will he continue to provide the same magic? Will this movie be another hit on the likes of Baasha, Padayappa, Annamalai? We have to wait long as Shankar usually takes a long time.

Silambarasan is back after kaalai which did not do business at box office. Silambattam is his 25TH movie. The heroine of the movie is Sana Khan. Simbhu plays double role yet again after manmadhan.

The audio is launched few days back. Yuvan shankar raja scores yet again for Simbhu after Vallavan. Vallavan’s audio was a smash hit. Here, Silambattam has five songs. Ilayaraja the maestro himself has sung for a song “Machaan Machaan”. This song is a typical maestro’s melody. Maestro has crooned for first time for Silambarasan.

They have remixed the yester year hit “Nallam Dhaana”. The new version is sung my Simbu himself. This song is a hit. Something special about Silambattam is song “where is the party”  which is for the frequent party goers is also topping the charts nowadays.

“Vechukava and Thamizh Enral” are mass numbers to entertain the fans.

Surya starrer Vaaranam Aayirum directed by Gowtham Menon did not screen for Diwali. The much awaited movie has been slated to release on November 14TH. This is  Gowtham’s second movie with Surya. Gowtham previous movies Minnalae, Kakha Kakha, Pachaikilli Muthucharam, Vetaiyadau Velaiyadu all were big hits.

This is not an action film. This is a drama portraying father son relationship. It also signifies the importance of father in one’s life. Surya has done a six pack look for the movie to motivate the youngsters.

The songs are already played in one’s heart.  Harris has done an excellent job.  The movie has six sizzling songs. Gowtham for the first time has a Gaana song in his movie. Simran, Divya, Sameera Reddy play heroines for the movie. The trailer of the movie has already created waves amongst the people. Surya looking like a seventeen year old guy in this movie. This role is doing much talking in the tinsel world.
